Judgments and liens - Court appointed judgments placed on your credit report are there for at least 6 years from the date the judgment was granted. In this case the major credit reporting agency such as Experian will get this information from independent organization established by the Lord Chancellor’s Department or Registry Trust.

Generally judgments that are paid off within a month will be removed from your personal or business credit report, once you receive the certificate of satisfaction from the courts. Any judgments paid after a month will remain on your credit report however will be marked as “satisfied” upon receipt of the certificate.

This too remains on your credit report for up to six years following the date the bankruptcy was declared. Generally the major credit reporting agencies will maintain information provided by the lender for up to six year. Normally lenders will only report information on your credit report if your fail to make payments timely or according to your agreement. Although the majority of creditors will report information regardless of the credit report standings or payment history. At which point all lenders and potential lenders can easily spot people with good credit from people with poor credit or too many credit accounts active. Most often the information notated on your credit report by the lender will be: settled, active, defaulted and delinquent. Review each type of reported information:

  • Settled - when an account is settled it has been paid in full. Credit agencies maintain this information for 6 years from the date it was paid in full.
  • Active - Quite naturally active accounts means the account is currently open and still in use. Active accounts remain on the credit report 6 years after they’re settled.
  • Defaulted - This type of remark on your record implies you have failed to maintain the terms of your credit agreement. This information will stay on your report 6 years from the date your agreement was broken or until the account is paid in full.
  • Delinquent – delinquent comments on your report notate the fact that your account is passing due for at least three months or more.
